Weighed and found wanting

THE MANILA Film Festival has again gathered filmmakers and artists in a celebration of Philippine Cinema. The six films this year are: Sabel (Regal Films), Kulimlim (Viva Films), Naglalayag (Angora Films), Volta (Star Cinema Productions), Mano Mano 3: Arnis…The Lost Art (Rocketts Productions), and Anak Ka ng Tatay Mo (Magsaysay Films).

Diversity ruled the filmfest this year, but it was not enough to salvage filmdom from bad acting, substandard productions, and annoying clichés.

Thomasians pray for priests

Priests need prayers, too.

The solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus witnessed the Week of Prayer and Gratitude for Priests, a week-long prayer vigil for the clergy last June 14-18 at the Central Seminary chapel.

Priests who had “gone astray” were given prayers and in Hour of Reflection and Discernment, a seminar for aspiring priests that followed after the prayer vigil of the different colleges and faculties in the University.  read more »

However, it is neither owned by a prominent celebrity nor by an established businessman. Population control, kinontra

KUMAKAPAL na ang mga panukalang batas na inihain sa Kongreso para pigilin ang paglaki ng populasyon ng bansa, at isa rito ang two-children policy bill. Subalit mga eksperto mismo ang nagsasabi na ang mga ito ay hindi solusyon, sa halip, dagdag pa sa problema.

MLQ eksibit inilunsad

BILANG pag-alala sa dating Pangulong Manuel Quezon na tinaguriang “Ama ng Wikang Pambansa,” inilunsad ng Heritage Institute Center ang exhibit ng kanyang mga natatanging larawan sa bulwagan ng UST Central Library noong Agosto 19.

Tampok sa exhibit ang ilang mga eksena sa buhay ni Quezon, alumnus ng UST Faculty of Civil Law, noong panahon ng kanyang Commonwealth Government at mga piling personal na larawang mula pa sa filipiniana collection ni Nestor Vera Cruz.  read more »
