But in this month’s exhibit at the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences, the photographs of the Italian sculptor’s works— the massive sculptures atop the UST Main Building, the bust of St. Thomas Aquinas in the mezzanine of the same building, the relief murals on scenes in Philippine history at the lobby of the Far Eastern University’s administrative building, and the cast of St. Dominic de Guzman at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City, among others—remind people of his importance to modern Philippine art.  read more »

ANOTHER site assumed to be purely Biblical is now proven to be rooted in history.

The Pool of Siloam, where Jesus miraculously healed a blind man as documented in the Gospel of John, was first discovered by workers repairing a damaged sewer line in the Old Jerusalem late last year. Recent developments in excavation have further authenticated the spot.

Upon the discovery of the pool’s three flights of stone stairs providing an easy access to water, Eli Shukron of the Israel Antiquities Authority said he was “100 per cent sure it was the Siloam pool.”  read more »

FATHER Rector Tamerlane Lana, O.P. led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of the Benavides Cancer Institute of the UST Hospital’s ambitious program to make UST a center for cancer treatment and research in the country.

Health Sec. Francisco Duque III, a UST alumnus, called the cancer institute “a dream that has come of age,” during the groundbreaking rites last Sept. 2. Every cancer specialist’s dream will now be fulfilled, said Dr. William Olalia, UST Hospital (USTH) chief operating officer.  read more »

Fourteen years after the coronation of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Sta. Ana, Manila a replica of the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados in Spain, another canonical coronation event will take place on Oct. 23 as Pope Benedict XVI approved the crowning of the Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina City.  read more »

THE BROKEN windows allow as much air as they can manage. The floors and stairs are wet. Some of the walls are chipped and vandalized. Residents are cramped in a small space, which reeks of an overwhelming, pungent smell.

THE UST Tiger Jins snagged a gold, silver, and bronze in the 22nd National Taekwondo Championships last Aug. 6-7 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The UST Women’s Team A brought home the gold after defeating De La Salle University (La Salle) Team A, 5-0, in the finals. Composed of Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) sophomore Sarah Arellano, Education junior Esther Marie Singson, UST alumni and national team members Daleen Cordero, Josephine and Jasmine Strachan, the UST Women’s Team A also made mincemeat of Region Three (4-1) and Powerflex (5-0).  read more »
