Jan. 29, 7:26 p.m. - THE Lady Spikers were swept by defending champions De La Salle University in three sets, 20-25, 22-25, 13-25, at The Arena in San Juan this afternoon.
La Salle’s solid blocking limited UST’s frontline led by Maruja Banaticla, who only had eight points. Judy Caballejo and Maika Ortiz were limited to nine and five points, respectively.
Rookie Victonara Galang led the Lady Archers with 12 markers, while Cha Cruz and Michelle Gumabao recorded 11 and eight points, respectively.
“Those players who were expected to lead the team did not step up,” coach Odjie Mamon said. La Salle opened the last frame with an 8-1 rally due to five consecutive errors by UST.
The Lady Spikers remained tied with Adamson University at fourth spot with identical 6-5 win-loss cards. Chenny V. Ramos
