THE TIGRESSES bowed to UAAP runner- up Adamson University, 64-74, in the second game of the women’s division of Filipino-Chinese Basketball League at the Philippine Buddhacare Gym early this afternoon.
The UST cagebelles, who also lost to De La Salle University last Saturday, lost their second consecutive game to drop at the bottom of the team standings with a 0-2 win-loss card.
Rookie Maika Cortes fired 16 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a losing effort, while returning UST cagebelle Lore Rivera contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.
"We weren’t able to play properly. We could’ve defeated them if only we showed good defense,” head coach Chris Cantonjos said. “But those whom I expected to deliver did not step up. Even if it's not the UAAP yet, we should still show that we are improving."
UST tried to reduce an 11-point deficit with less than three minutes left in the game, with a drive by Maria Mejia and a three-point play by Rivera. But the Tigresses fell short, converting only one of four free throws in the dying seconds. Chenny V. Ramos
