Amadea Medina, 100

Photo by Jilson Seckler C. TiuJuly 22, 11:14 p.m. - The University’s oldest living alumna, Amadea Medina, passed away at the UST Hospital today. She was 100 years old.

Medina graduated magna cum laude with an Education degree, major in English and minor in Home Economics, in 1933.

She had worked as a teacher in non-formal education, in a community that made use of vocational training for a living. She was among alumni featured at the 'Q' Grand Program last January 27 at the UST Grandstand.

“Live simply,” she told thousands of Thomasians when asked about her secret for a long life. "Face life as it is, but think positively—be optimistic.”

Lola Deng, I have wonderful memories of asking for salt and food when I lived in your house temporarily. Thank you so much for everything. You will be sorely missed.

With 100 years of having given joy to everyone elses’ hearts, 100 years of having lived a full life, filled with so much accomplishments, not just in professional aspect but more so personal --- no matter how busy she was, she always had time for everyone and anyone who knocked at her door. I think lola Deng never married, nor had her own children, because she was born with such a big heart that it was simply meant to be shared with all of us over the span of a century .... as a family we were fortunate, as friends we were lucky to have had her grace our lives.... Lola Deng, every heart here is filled with love and gratitude for you, for your kindness, generosity, patience and understanding.... though we mourn our loss, we still celebrate because we have been privileged and extremely blessed having had you in our lives...
