July 14, 6:23 p.m. - POINT guard Jeric Fortuna scored on a layup with 39 seconds remaining to lift the Growling Tigers over the National University Bulldogs in overtime, 73-72, in their UAAP curtain-raiser at the Araneta Coliseum this afternoon.
The veteran Fortuna finished with 23 points, six of them in the extra period, as the Tigers opened the season with a victory over an improved NU lineup.
NU's prized catch, Bobby Ray Parks, finished with 16 points on a 5 of 20 field-goal shooting.
But Fortuna stole the spotlight from the Fil-American, son of seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Parks.
Fortuna, who also collected six boards, led UST's 15-6 run in the fourth quarter, including a triple that led to overtime.
Fortuna connected on jumpshots in the extra period to lift UST, 69-65. His last basket came after Parks missed on a jumpshot. Anne Marie Carmela L. Dayauon
