July 9, 9:21 p.m. - THE 74th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) formally opened this afternoon, with powerhouse UST seeking a 14th consecutive general championship.

Thomasian athletes donned the school's black-and-gold colors while marching during the Olympic-style opening ceremony prepared by host Ateneo de Manila University at the Marikina Sports Complex.

UST's delegation consisting of 627 athletes was the biggest among competing UAAP schools.

Former Blue Eagle pointguard and PBA veteran Olsen Racela lit up the UAAP torch amid wild cheers from the crowd.

"The theme 'All out, All heart' signifies that this [season] is more than just a simple tournament," said Ateneo president Fr. Jose Villarin, S.J. "These games are a matter of heart."

Teams from the four founding schools--UST, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, and National University--occupied the first half of the parade grounds.

Completing the parade were athletes from the University of the East, Adamson University, De La Salle University, and Ateneo. Jan Edward B. Ballesteros and Rodolfo Serafin Jerome T. Lozada
