Tigers droop down the cellar

The downtrodden UST Growling Tigers’ remarkable outside shooting failed to contain the now twice-to-beat Ateneo Blue Eagles in a pulsating 77-81 match at the Araneta Coliseum.

The black-and-gold dribblers slumped in the second half after experiencing the wrath of Ateneo’s Erik Salamat who gave his team 15 points before half time.

The Tigers tried to redeem themselves after Jeric Teng and Aljon Mariano fired two consecutive treys at the start of the third canto, 29-40.

Eagles Justin Chua and Ryan Buenafe’s each lay-up capped the period, 45-60.. Teng’s three-pointer rallied by bigman Chris Camus’ trey narrowed the lead, 69-75, with 1:39 left in the game.

The Tiger’s fired yet another trey with barely 32 seconds left, but it wasn’t enough to forge an over time.Brylle B. Tabora
